I taught you to make small puddles
in the cup of your hand
during your shower
You hold your hands out, reaching up
and create small pools
then let them go
It feels like success
these small things
Teaching you to do things step-by-step
and you remembering them
and even more,
you loving them.
Sometimes you stand in the shower, hands up,
for 30 minutes and startle and laugh when I come
to check on you. You might do it all
day if I let you.
It comforts me that we can go forward, even
if one small pooled bit of water at a time.
